Hi everyone,
Happy Disability Pride Month! We are so glad to celebrate our community’s strength and resilience while remembering that facing ableism can be a constant battle. There is a beautiful Disability Pride Flag, created by Ann Magill in 2021, shown below. Learn more about the flag here.
If you’re interested in learning more about disabled pride this month, @DisabledinSTEM will be hosting Disabled in STEM Week from July 17 - 22 to celebrate disabled people from all the letters of STEM.
How will you be celebrating Disability Pride Month?
What we’re thinking about this month:
There was an excellent series of events from the US National Academies in June, Disrupting Ableism and Advancing STEM: A National Leadership Summit. We highly encourage you to check out the video recordings of their conversations, which have ASL interpreters and auto-generated captions and transcripts.
The US National Science Foundation has a highly relevant funding opportunity open, with proposals due in September: Workplace Equity for Persons with Disabilities in STEM and STEM Education.
BookRiot published a list of 20 must-read books about disability (fiction and non-fiction).
Uncharted contributor Syreeta Nolan’s mother passed away earlier this year - she is fundraising to help cover living expenses as she manages her disabilities and grief. Please keep Syreeta and her family in your thoughts.
Book updates:
Uncharted comes out on August 8th, so we are entering the final 1-month countdown!

We’ll keep sharing additional press coverage and stories about the authors who contributed to Uncharted on our new landing page! If you’re interested in reviewing the book for a media outlet, please reach out to us about an e-galley.
